June 8th Dialogue:

Join us this week for this groundbreaking dialogue with Claudio Naranjo, one of World Spirituality’s great grandfathers and revolutionaries. Claudio is a Chilean psychiatrist who is considered a pioneer in integrating psychotherapy and the spiritual traditions. He is one of the three successors named by Fritz Perls, one of the pioneering developers of the Enneagram, and the founder of SAT (Seekers After Truth Institute), one of the most influential systems of psychospiritual transformation in Central and South America, and Spain. He is the author of numerous books, including Ennea-type Structures, The Way of Silence and The Talking Cure, Songs of Enlightenment, The End of Patriarchy, and the forthcoming, The Healing Journey: New Approaches to Consciousness.

In this dialogue, Claudio brings over five decades of immersion, study, teaching, research and publications into the world’s great wisdom traditions, as well as a profound immersion in psychological transformation and transpersonal psychology. Claudio’s life itself represents that of a man who has journeyed into World Spirituality. This dialogue will consider questions including: what are the possibilities and pitfalls of drawing from multiple traditions and paths in a holistic and embodied approach to transformation? How do we develop a personalized path to transformation in the context of respecting the great traditions? What wisdom does the Ennegram system offer to the evolution of a World Spirituality, and are their specific challenges and possibilities for specific ennea-types, and more. . .

Claudio Naranjo is an elder statesman of the U.S. and global Human Potential Movement and the spiritual renaissance of the late 20th Century. He studied medicine, music, and philosophy in Chile, where he also was a resident at the University of Chile Psychiatric Clinic under Matte-Blanco. He taught psychology of art at the Catholic University and social psychiatry at the School of Journalism, University of Chile, and served as Director of the Center for Studies in Medical Anthropology.

Claudio Naranjo’s published works include The One Quest (Viking Press, 1972), The Psychology of Meditation (Penguin, 1972), The Healing Journey (Pantheon Books, 1974), La Vieja y Novasima Gestalt: Actitud y Practica (Editorial Cuatro Vientos, 1990), Ennea-type Structures (Gateways Books, 1991, 2004), Gestalt Therapy: The Attitude and Practice of an Atheoretical Experientialism (Gateways Books, 1993, and Crown House, U.K., 2000), Gestalt After Fritz (published by Era Naciente, 1993, as Gestalt sin Fronteras), The End of Patriarchy and the Dawning of a Tri-une Society (Dharma Enterprises, 1994, and Kair’s, 1993, as La Agona del Patriarcado), The Divine Child and the Hero (Gateways Books, 1999), Enneatypes in Psychotherapy (Hohm Press, 1994), Transformation Through Insight: Enneatypes in Life, Literature and Clinical Practice (HOHM Press, 1997), and El Enneagrama de la Sociedad (Temas de Hoy, 1995, Ediciones La Llave, 2000), The Enneagram of Society: Healing the Soul to Heal the World (Gateways Books, 2004), The Way of Silence and the Talking Cure (forthcoming), Changing Education to Change the World (Forthcoming).

He is a core founder and faculty member of iEvolve Global Practice Community as well as director of the Integral Life Spiritual Center of Integral Life. Gafni’s teaching is marked by a deep transmission of open heart, love and leading edge provocative wisdom. Gafni’s path of personal evolution, in both the agony and the ecstasy of  what he calls “sacred autobiography,” woven together with profound reverence and reading of sacred texts have formed the context for his personal realization. It is from this place of broken-hearted humility, radical joy and sacred audacity that he teaches.

Mariana Caplan, PhD, is the author of seven books and numerous articles on cutting edge topics in Western spirituality, including the seminal book: Halfway Up the Mountain: the Error of Premature Claims to Enlightenment and Do You Need a Guru?: Understanding the Student-Teacher Relationship in an Era of False Prophets.
